Camellia, also known as Cametek, KamelCamellia, or real-life name Masaya Oya (大箭将也), is a 31-year-old Japanese musician, composer, and DJ who gained recognition primarily focused on rhythmic music such as hardcore, speedcore, and dubstep. He’s best known for his work on rhythm games, especially osu!, Beat Saber, Arcaea, and Konami’s Bemani series.1
Born September 28, 1992, in Asahikawa, Hokkaido, Japan, he began creating music at ten by making tracks for Yume 2kki.2 Ever since, he has made hundreds of songs, with his discography having 28 albums and 4 EPs.3 During the early 2010s, Camellia began making VOCALOID songs and music for Touhou Project.4 He joined numerous BEMANI music contests and began composing for rhythm games in 2012.5 He gained much recognition among the rhythm gaming community, being popular in certain rhythm games like osu!, Beat Saber, and A Dance of Fire and Ice, alongside being featured in other rhythm or music-focused games like Friday Night Funkin’, Geometry Dash, RoBeats!, and more.
Camellia joined YouTube on March 22nd, 2009, and has amassed over 375k subscribers since November 28th, 2023. However, most of his songs, especially older songs, aren’t uploaded on his channel but can be found through other sources such as the Camellia - Topic channel and Camellia’s official site. The oldest video on his channel is neogenesis(promptedgenesis mix), uploaded on June 5th, 2010. Since then, he has uploaded 170 videos as of November 28th, 2023, with his most viewed video being his MEGALOVANIA remix, sitting at over 15 million views. Some of his songs also feature other Youtubers, sometimes in the form of vocal samples, such as The8BitDrummer with his “FRICKING JUMPING BEANS!” line on Camellia’s We Could Get More Machinegun Psystyle! -And More Genre Switches- track, and BTMC with his “LET’S FUCKING GO!” line on Camellia’s Purge My Existence Out Of This World track.
Camellia has his fair share of collaborations. He’s collaborated with several VTubers, namely Hololive’s Shishiro Botan with their Lioness’ Pride track, Mori Calliope with their Dead on Arrival track, and NIJISANJI EN’s Rosemi Lovelock with their ROSE ME track, among several other recognizable individuals.
